This was my first time creating a dedicated self-portrait. Beyond drawing myself in portrait classes or doodles in a sketchbook, I don’t often incorporate myself into my work. It was interesting to first write about what inspires me and what interests me outside of my artistic practice. I love spending time outside and translating the mythical nature of the outdoors into my work. Creatively expanding further from reality is an important part of my practice, from characters to landscapes to more graphic work. I knew I wanted to bring some of each of those aspects into my portrait to fully depict what makes me an artist beyond liking to draw.
